Fuel Prices Surge Ahead of Lunar New Year

At a bustling gas station in Jeju City, vehicles come and go to refuel.

However, with recent sharp increases in gasoline and diesel prices, consumers are voicing their concerns.

It’s burdensome. The prices have gone up too much, and it doesn’t even feel like I’m getting enough fuel. With the current economic difficulties, it’s really hitting us hard.



The average gasoline price at Jeju gas stations stands at 1,750 won per liter, up 55 won compared to a month ago.

Diesel prices are 1,607 won per liter, also up 55 won over the same period.

Due to Jeju’s island-specific logistics costs, both gasoline and diesel prices are the second highest in the country after Seoul.
Moreover, increased traffic during the approaching Lunar New Year’s holidays is expected to further burden consumers, especially those whose livelihoods depend on driving.

It’s a problem, but what can we do? We can’t stop driving just because fuel prices went up.

This month's rise in domestic fuel prices is due to a spike in global oil prices.


Global oil prices hit a five-month high in mid-January due to supply concerns stemming from U.S. sanctions on Russian energy firms.
Since changes in global oil prices usually take 2?3 weeks to affect domestic gas station prices, a further rise in domestic fuel prices seems inevitable for the time being.

International oil price trends suggest that domestic fuel prices will likely rise further through the end of the month, following the Lunar New Year holidays.


설연휴 앞두고 치솟는 기름값…소비자 '부담'


제주시내 한 주유소.

기름을 보충하기 위해 차량들이 분주히 드나듭니다.

하지만 최근 휘발유와
경유가격이 부쩍 오르면서
기름을 넣는 소비자들은 부담을 호소합니다.

부담스럽습니다. 요금도 너무 많이 올랐고 기름을 담아도 담은 것 같지 않고 지금 경제적으로 어렵다 보니깐 피부에 와닿는 게 너무 힘든 것 같습니다.


제주지역 주유소의 휘발유 평균 판매가격은
리터당 1천750원으로
한 달 전과 비교해 55원 올랐습니다.

경유는 리터당 1천607원으로
휘발유와 마찬가지로 한 달 새 55원 상승했습니다.


제주는 섬 지역 특성상 물류비가 추가로 들면서
휘발유와 경유 가격 모두
서울에 이어 전국에서 두 번째로 높았습니다.


게다가 교통량이 늘어나는 설 연휴가 다가오면서
기름값 상승으로 인한 소비자 부담은 더 가중될 것으로 보입니다.

특히 운전이 생업과 연결되는 경우는
걱정이 더 클 수밖에 없습니다.

부담스럽지만은 할 수 없지 어떻게 할 거야. 기름값 올랐다고 차 운전 안 할 수 없잖아.

이 같은 유가 상승은
이달 들어 국제유가가 급등한 영향으로 풀이됩니다.

국제유가는 미국의 러시아 에너지기업 제재 여파로
공급 우려가 확산하면서
이달 중순엔 5개월 만에 최고치를 경신했다.

국제유가 변동이 통상 2주에서 3주가량 차이를 두고
국내 주유소 가격에 반영되기 때문에
당분간 국내 유가 상승은 불가피할 전망입니다.

석유업계는
국제 유가 상승 흐름을 고려해
설 연휴를 지나 이달 말까지
국내 유가가 오름세를 보일 것으로 예측했습니다.
