The benchmark interest rate, which had been on hold last month, has been lowered by 0.25 percentage points.

On the 25th, the Bank of Korea’s Monetary Policy Board held its second annual policy meeting and decided to cut the benchmark interest rate from 3.0% to 2.75%.

The rate had been frozen at 3.5% for a record 13 consecutive meetings before being lowered twice in a row last October and November, then held steady again last month.

Despite concerns over the won-dollar exchange rate, the decision to cut the interest rate is attributed to worsening economic conditions amid domestic and global risks.

지난 25일 올해 두 번째 통화정책방향 회의를 열고
기준금리를 현재 연 3%에서 연 2.75%로
0.25%포인트 낮췄습니다.

기준금리는
연 3.5%에서 역대 최장인 13차례 연속 동결되다
지난해 10월과 11월 두 차례 연속 인하됐고
지난달엔 다시 동결됐습니다.

원달러 환율 부담에도
국내외 악재 속에 경제 상황이 악화되면서
기준금리가 인하된 것으로 풀이됩니다.
