The number of domestic tourists visiting Jeju has dropped significantly, raising concerns within the tourism industry.
Amid this downturn, the back-to-back golden holidays in May and June are drawing attention as potential relief in the drought.

Golden Holidays May Revive Jeju Economy

This is the domestic arrivals hall at the Jeju International Airport.
Despite the perfect spring weather for traveling, the terminal is quieter than in previous years.
Both group and individual tourists appear to be fewer in number.

[Slug] 14% drop in domestic tourists compared to last year

So far this year, the number of domestic tourists visiting Jeju has decreased by about 14% compared to last year.
With the drop in travelers, the tourism industry is pinning its hopes on the golden holidays in May and June.

Starting from May 1, Labor Day, and extending to the substitute holiday on the 6th, travelers can take up to six days off depending on their use of annual leave.
As a result, airline tickets for the May holiday have quickly become scarce.




In fact, on May 3, during the golden holiday weekend, only one evening flight remains available from Gimpo to Jeju.
Finding return flights is even more difficult.

During this period, demand for airline tickets has pushed some premium hotels to reach a 90% booking rate, and reservations for resorts and rental cars are also on the rise.

In April, inquiries about package tours have increased significantly.
For the May holidays, we expect a big rise in demand for cost-effective domestic travel.
Since June includes a holiday and the presidential election, we’re seeing a trend of early bookings during that time.

4월 들어서 패키지 상품 문의가 굉장히 증가하고 있는 상황이고요. 5월 연휴 기간에는 가성비 높은 국내 여행 수요가 굉장히 증가할 것으로 보고 있습니다. (6월은) 연휴가 껴있고 대선이 있다 보니깐 초에 예약이 많이 몰리는 경향이 있습니다.
