The first Severe Fever with SFTS case of the year has been reported in Jeju.

According to the Province, a 72-year-old woman living in Seogwipo City, who had been engaging in outdoor activities such as fernbrake harvesting since early last month, developed symptoms including fever and general weakness on the 22nd.

She tested positive for SFTS and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Jeju City.

Ticks are highly active from spring to fall, and exposure is more likely in grassy areas at ankle height in mountainous regions, prompting authorities to urge caution.

Experts advise wearing long sleeves and long pants during farming or outdoor activities, and checking for ticks while washing after such activities.

Over the past three years, Jeju has reported 28 cases of SFTS, with 3 resulting in death.

제주특별자치도에 따르면 서귀포시에 사는 72살의 여성이 지난달 초부터 고사리 채취 등 야외활동을 해 오다 지난 22일 발열과 전신쇠약감 등의 증상을 보여 검사한 결과 양성판정을 받았고
현재 제주시내 병원에서 치료를 받고 있습니다.

진드기는 봄부터 가을까지 활동이 왕성하며
야산지역의 발목 높이 초지에서 노출될 가능성이 높아 각별한 주의가 요구되고 있습니다.

특히 농작업이나 야외활동에 긴 소매와 긴 바지를 착용해야 하며 활동 후에는 몸을 씻으면서
진드기가 붙어 있는지 확인해야 한다고 전문가들은 당부하고 있습니다.

최근 3년간 제주지역에서 발생한 SFTS 환자는 28명이며 이 가운데 3명이 숨진 바 있습니다.
