A new report warns that climate change will drastically reduce Jeju’s agricultural productivity.

The Bank of Korea Jeju Branch predicts that Jeju’s average temperature will rise from 16°C to 20°C by around 2080.

Under that scenario, carrot acreage is projected to drop by nearly 40 percent. Strawberry output is projected to fall by 100 percent, and citrus by more than 18 percent.

This decline is projected to hit related industries, leading to a 67-billion-won decrease in regional GDP.

The bank suggests developing new crop varieties and diversifying disaster insurance to ease the burden on farmers.

제주 농업 생산성이 크게 감소할 것이라는 전망이 나왔습니다.

한국은행 제주본부에 따르면
현재 16도인
제주 평균 기온이
2080년쯤 평균 20도에 이르는 상황을 가정했을때
당근 재배면적은 40%가까이 감소하고
딸기는 100%, 감귤은 18% 이상 줄어들 것으로 분석됐습니다.

1차 산업 뿐 아니라 다수의 연관 산업에도
부정적인 영향을 미쳐
지역내 총생산이 670억 원 감소할 것으로 내다봤습니다.

한국은행은 기후변화에 대비한
작물 신품종 개발과 농가 부담을 덜 수 있는
재해보험 적용 품목 다변화 등이 필요하다고 제안했습니다.
