When remains of missing victims of the Jeju 4·3 incident are recovered, they cannot be cremated at will and must undergo an identity verification process.

Jeju Province announced that an amendment to the Framework Act on Settling the Past for Truth and Reconciliation has passed the National Assembly. It bans the practice of mass cremation and enshrinement of remains of civilian victims of historical incidents.
Under the revised law, any remains that are discovered must be preserved until their identification is confirmed.

Jeju Province said the measure reflects the wishes of bereaved families and urged bereaved families to actively participate in DNA sampling to expedite the identification process.

임의대로 화장 할 수 없고 신원 확인 절차가 진행됩니다.

제주도는
과거사 민간 희생자 유해를 일괄 화장해 안치하는 것을 금지한
진실화해 과거사 정리 기본법 개정안이
국회를 최종 통과했다고 밝혔습니다.

이에 따라 유해가 발견되면 임의 처리되지 않고
신원이 확인될 때 까지 보존됩니다.

제주도는 유족회 바람대로 유해 화장과 합사가 금지됐다며
앞으로 신원 확인이 조속이 이뤄질 수 있도록
유가족들의 적극적인 채혈 참여를 당부했습니다.
