The “Six Million Trees Planting Project,” a key pledge of the eighth elected provincial administration, is set to be completed this year.

The province reported that 5.18 million trees were planted until last year. That is 86 percent of the target since the project began in 2022.

This year, Jeju will expand urban greenery, including 1.9 hectares of wind-path forest and 6.3 hectares of climate-responsive urban forests.

Once the project is completed, it is expected to absorb approximately 26,000 tons of carbon annually, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those produced by roughly 10,000 cars.

민선 8기 공약사업인 '600만 그루 나무심기'가
올해 마무리됩니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면
지난 2022년부터 추진해온 이 사업은
지난해까지 518만 그루를 심어 목표의 86%가 달성됐습니다.

올해는
도시바람길숲 1.9ha와 기후대응도시숲 6.3ha 등을 조성하는 등
도심 속 녹지를 확대할 계획입니다.

600만그루 사업이 완료되면
연간 약 2만 6천여 톤의 탄소를 흡수하고
승용차 1만여 대 분량의 온실가스 배출을 저감하는
환경적 효과가 기대됩니다.
