The amount of household waste sent to landfills in Jeju has been cut nearly in half over the past two years.

According to an analysis of waste management statistics by Jeju Province, the daily average volume of landfilled household waste fell from 48.7 tons in 2022 to 24.6 tons in 2024. That represents a 49.5 percent decrease.

During the same period, daily recycling volume increased from 765 tons to 828 tons.

Jeju Province attributes the improvement to policies aimed at reducing single-use products, as well as upgrades to waste treatment facilities. Greater public participation in waste separation and recycling also played a key role.
