The 8th Island Day event, to be held in August next year, will take place in Jeju, and the province is now beginning full-scale preparations.

The event will be organized centered on Seongsan Ilchulbong, incorporating outlying islands including Udo(우도), Gapado(가파도), Marado(마라도), Biyangdo(비양도), and Chujado(추자도).

The program will highlight resources unique to Jeju, including its natural environment, Haenyeo women diver culture, fishing village communities, and island ecosystems, showcasing the diverse values and attractions of island life.

Island Day marks August 8th as a national commemorative day to raise awareness of the value and importance of islands, with the government rotating the event across island regions each year.

내년 8월 개최되는 제8회 섬의 날 행사가
제주에서 개최되는 가운데
제주도가 본격적인 준비에 착수합니다.

성산일출봉을 중심으로
우도와 가파도, 마라도, 비양도, 추자도 등
부속도서를 연계하는 제주형 행사모델로 추진합니다.

특히 제주의 자연환경과 해녀문화, 어촌공동체,
섬 생태 등
제주에서만 경험할 수 있는 자원을 활용해
섬의 다양한 가치와
매력을 알릴 수 있는 프로그램으로 구성합니다.

섬의 날은
섬의 가치와 중요성을 널리 알리기 위해
8월 8일을 국가기념일로 지정했으며
정부는 섬 지역을 순회하며 기념행사를 개최하고 있습니다.
