Controversy over Jeju Air’s planned name change
Parent company wants to rename it AK Jeju Air
It’s only recently become known that Jeju Air, which is involved in a conflict with the provincial government over a plan to change its name, has closed its Jeju office.
It wants to change its name to AK Jeju Air, to reflect its parent company, the AeKyung Group.
The carrier carried out a restructuring during the latter half of 2014, removing its Jeju main office, which had been one of six main offices, and creating a new marketing office.
Industry insiders say the sudden shuttering means that the airline considers the province as nothing more than a minority shareholder. This is a big turnaround, in June 2014 was beginning to look for a director of the Jeju office.
Meanwhile, according to the Korea Exchange, Jeju Air applied Thursday for preliminary listing on the the securities market.
