More seats means more tourists
940,000 tourists have visited the island this month, 5.2 percent more than at this point in August last year. Domestic arrivals are up a staggering 47 percent. The paper credits the greater number of seats on flights to Jeju.

More than 10,000 drivers were fined for illegal parking at Jeju International Airport last year. About 7,400 drivers had been caught through the end of July this year. Some motorists simply ignore rules; others park in security camera blind zones.

Thanks to a drop in international oil prices, domestic fuel prices have been gradually declining. The Halla Ilbo reports, however, that, as of Sunday, local drivers were paying an average of 45 won more per liter for gasoline compared to mainland motorists.

Yonhap is reporting that President Park Geun-hye called on North Korea Monday to apologize for recent provocations. Her statement came amid ongoing high-level talks between the two sides attempting to defuse heightened tensions on the peninsula.

NK forward deploys amphibious landing craft
North Korea has deployed amphibious landing craft carrying special forces to the frontline. About 10 of the vessels are now at a naval base about 60 kilometers north of the Northern Limit Line, the de facto inter-Korean border in the Yellow Sea.
