Police investigating alleged assault of Jeju City official
Newspaper reporter booked, being questioned

Police are investigating the alleged assault of a Jeju City official by a reporter for a daily newspaper.

The Jeju (서부) Seobu Police Station says that officers booked the reporter on charges of assaulting the official. They are questioning the reporter and a witness about the case, saying they intend to complete their investigation this week after analyzing footage from nearby security cameras and other evidence.

As soon as the civil servant recovers, investigators will also try to determine why he attempted to commit suicide.

The official reported that he was assaulted by the journalist on Wednesday. The reporter denies the allegation.

제주서부경찰서는 이번 공무원 폭행사건의 가해자로 입건된 모 일간지 기자와 참고인 조사를 마쳤고, CCTV와 주변 증거물 분석을 통해 이번 주 안으로 협박과 폭행 혐의에 대한 수사를 마무리할 계획입니다.

이와는 별도로 해당 공무원의 투신사건에 대해서는 당사자 건강이 회복되는 대로 투신경위 등을 조사할 방침입니다.
