‘Foreign investment hospital should be allowed’
Gov. says permission should be given if plans reflect provincial goals

The governor has publicly refuted arguments civic groups have made against the establishment of the Greenland International Hospital.

Regarding what would be the island’s first foreign investment hospital, Won Heeryong criticized claims by the groups that the 48-bed facility would disrupt the national health insurance system and lead to a sudden rise in medical expenses. He made the comments in a Wednesday morning executive meeting.

He argued that the provincial office should issue a permit for the hospital if it is fully funded by foreign capital and if it conforms to the province’s medical tourism goals.

He added that the international hospital plan was not a local project, but one based on laws enacted by the National Assembly. Won says that means the local government must permit and support it if the plans meet legal requirements.

원희룡 제주특별자치도지사가시민단체에서 주장하는 녹지국제병원의 문제점에 대해 공개적으로 반박하고 나섰습니다.

원 지사는 오늘 오전 열린 도정시책공유 간부회의에서 외국인 1호 영리병원인 녹지국제병원과 관련해 48개의 병상을 가진 조그만 외국인 투자병원이 무슨 대한민국 건강보험체계를 흔들고
의료비 폭등을 가져오느냐고 시민사회단체의 주장을 비판했습니다.

특히 순수하게 외국인이 투자하면서 제주가 추구하는 헬스관광산업 발전에 부합한다면 허가를 내줄 수 밖에 없다고 강조했습니다.

또 이는 제주도가 자체적으로 외국인 영리병원을 추진하는게 아니라 국회에서 만들어진 법에 따른 것으로 행정으로서는 적법 절차에 따라 여건이 맞으면 허가를 내주고 지원해야 한다고 주장했습니다.
