All seats on regular Jeju flights over the Chuseok holidays are booked, and now reservations are open for the additional flights that were added to the schedule. They are expected to go fast.

The Jemin Ilbo is reporting on the failure of a number of provincial projects that were designed to raise the competitiveness of local marine products and help them break into overseas markets.

The provincial government and the National Assembly are struggling to find a way for the (예래) Yerae development project to proceed. The assembly thinks the province should be leading the push for a solution to the problems, but local officials say that wouldn’t be right.

More senior safety zones needed
The number of car accidents involving elderly pedestrians increased 20 percent over the last three years. The Halla Ilbo is reporting that there are only 16 senior safety zones on the island, but that there are 774 areas in which the elderly are at-risk.

There is a consensus among locals about converting (성산) Seongsan High School into a national maritime high school. There are a number of issues that need to be addressed, though, the most important being gaining the support of national ministries.

SK seeks removal of Japanese newspaper column
Yonhap is reporting that South Korea on Tuesday requested the retraction of a Japanese newspaper column that likens President Park Geun-hye to a former Korean empress slain by Japanese agents. The Sankei Shimbun, however, refused to remove the article, citing the freedom of press.

SK, China hold talks on NK ahead of summit
The chief nuclear envoys from South Korea and China held talks on Tuesday on ways to resolve a long-running standoff over North Korea's nuclear weapons program. It was a day before President Park Geun-hye and Chinese President Xi Jinping hold a summit in Beijing.
