More driver’s licenses issued to non-Koreans
1,141 last year; 2,000+ so far this year

Over the last two years, a lot more non-Koreans have been issued driver’s licenses in Jeju.

One of the members of the National Assembly’s Safety Administration Committee says that, according to data submitted by the Korea Road Traffic Authority, 1,141 internationals obtained a driver’s license in 2014 on the island. New Politics Alliance for Democracy representative (유대운) Yu Dae-un points out that that is four times the total in 2012.

The number continues to climb this year: more than 2,000 licenses were issued during the first seven months of 2015.

제주지역 외국인 운전면허 발급 급증

제주지역에서 운전면허를 따는 외국인이 최근 2년새 크게 증가한 것으로 나타났습니다.

국회 안전행정위 소속 새정치민주연합 유대운 의원이도로교통공단으로부터 받은 자료에 따르면 지난해 제주에서 운전면허를 발급받은 외국인은 모두 1천141명으로 2년전보다 4배 이상 증가했습니다.

특히 올해는 지난 7월까지 모두 2천건 넘게 발급되는 등 외국인 면허발급이 급증하고 있습니다.
