As we just heard, there are three known survivors from the Dolgorae(돌고래). They say that shortly after leaving the port, they heard a large thumping sound and the boat quickly capsized. Mike Laidman reports.
The Dolgorae(돌고래) leaves Shinyang Port, Chuja Island at 7 pm on Saturday evening.
Heavy rain and strong winds bring crashing waves as the fishing boat heads out into the water. 20 minutes later, a large thumping sound is heard and the boat capsizes.

It was pouring. There were big waves and about 20 minutes after we left port I heard a thump and the boat swayed to one side.

"비가 많이 왔어요. 너울 파도도 심했는데
출발해서 한 20분 도 안 갔는데 배가 쾅 하더니 기울어졌어요."

The accident happened so quickly that even though some people tried to hold on to the sides and move to the top deck, most ended up drowning.

I was on the first floor, below the cabin. I moved to the top deck quickly and then I saw people floating in the water. I wasn’t wearing a life jacket so I climbed up the side when the boat started listing…

선실 밑 1층에 있었는데 빨리 올라갔더니 사람들이 물에 다 떠 있었어요.
제가 구명조끼를 안 입고 있어서 벽으로 올라왔어요. 배가 기울어졌을 때...

The accident occurred in pitch blackness. The survivors held on to the boat for the next 10 hours.

At around 6:20 am, Sunday morning, in a dramatic turn of events, another fishing boat passed by the scene and rescued those in the water.

No rescue team came. We waited until about 7 a.m. Even the captain, who was on top of the boat, fell in after a wave hit him. Then we were rescued at 7. This happened to us fishermen...
The people on top survived but everyone who fell into the water drowned.

선장도 위에 있었다가 파도가 치니까 떨어져 버리고
아침 7시쯤 구조됐죠.//
