Jeju welcomed its nine-millionth tourist of the year on Sunday, 20 days earlier than last year. The Jeju Provincial Tourism Association projects the tally to top ten million in October.

The island has named 1,511 non-Koreans or mainlanders who contribute to local communities as honorary Jeju residents. KTO to reappraise Jungmun holdings
The Korea Tourism Organization has announced that it will reappraise the value of the land it owns in the Jungmun Tourism Complex, prior to price negotiations with the province. The Halla Ilbo says it was estimated to be worth 150 billion won in 2011, but analysts say it will be worth more than 200 billion won now.

Reason for late response to tragedy?
The Jeju office of the Ministry of Public Safety didn’t launch a search and rescue mission for the ill-fated Dolgorae until 80 minutes after authorities lost the signal for the ill-fated boat. Authorities managed to contact someone who was supposed to be aboard, but wasn’t, and that person apparently said it was sailing without problems toward its destination.

Koreas agree to hold family reunions in late Oct.
Yonhap is reporting that South and North Korea agreed Tuesday to hold reunions of families separated by the Korean War in late October. The meetings will be from October 20th to the 26th at a facility at Mount Kumgang, a scenic resort on the North's east coast.

Park’s approval rating jumps past 50%
President Park Geun-hye's approval rating reached more than 50 percent following a high-profile visit to China. Polling agency Realmeter says 50.4 percent of respondents to its survey approved of the job she is doing.
