Seogwipo population continues to grow
Nearly 168,000 as of end of last month

More people keep moving to Seogwipo.

City officials peg the official tally of residents last month at 167,506, nearly 43-hundred more than at the end of last year. That means the population grew by about 500 per month.

Assuming the trend continues, officials project the population will surpass 170,000 in February.

The Seogwipo population fell by 2,000 between 2006 and 2009, before starting to rebound in 2010. Over the last five years, it has grown by about 12,000.

서귀포 인구 꾸준히 늘어, 17만명 육박

서귀포시로 이전하는 인구가 꾸준히 늘고 있습니다.

서귀포시에 따르면, 지난 8월 기준 서귀포 인구수는 16만 7천 506명으로 올해에만 4천 281명이 늘었습니다.

매달 500여 명씩 늘어나는 지금의 추세를 볼 때 6개월 뒤인 내년 2월에는 서귀포 인구가 17만명을 넘을 것으로 예상되고 있습니다.

서귀포 인구는 특별자치도 출범 이후 2천여 명이 줄었다가 2010년부터 늘기 시작해 최근 5년 동안에만 1만 2천명이 증가했습니다.
