Jeju selected to host some FIFA U-20 World Cup matches
More than 1,000 athletes, coaches coming to S. Korea in 2017

Jeju has been chosen as one of the hosts of the 2017 U-20 World Cup, which will be in South Korea.

FIFA selected six locations, which also include (천안) Cheonan and (대전) Daejeon. There were nine candidate sites. Seoul and (울산) Ulsan are among those that were not chosen.

FIFA representatives arrived on the island for inspections in September. They looked at the Jeju World Cup Stadium, training facilities, accommodations, and local transport options.

The U-20 World Cup will begin May 20th, 2017. More than 1,000 athletes and coaches from 24 countries will participate.

오는 2017년 우리나라에서 열리는 20살 이하 월드컵의 개최도시에 제주가 포함됐습니다.

국제축구연맹 FIFA는 9개 후보 도시 가운데 제주와 천안, 대전 등 6개 도시를 개최지로 확정하고 서울과 울산 2개 도시는 제외했습니다.

앞서 FIFA 실사단은 서귀포시에 있는 월드컵경기장과 훈련장을 비롯해 숙소와 교통 시설 등을 점검했습니다.

FIFA 20살 이하 월드컵은 24개국에서 1천여 명이 참가한 가운데 2017년 5월 20일 개막합니다.
