Biyangdo Island fishermen earn \61m in 3 months

A temporary permit to catch Sika anchovies that was granted by the local government has helped boost local fishermen’s incomes.

Jeju City officials announced that from June through August, five fishing boats based on Biyando Island and licensed by the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, had been granted temporary permits which earned them 61 million won in income.

Even though this amount is smaller than last year’s 110 million won net total, local fishermen are still seeing this temporary permit program as a new source of income.

Officials plan to continue the program every June through August exclusively for fishing vessels based at Biyangdo Island, when turban shell harvesting is prohibited.

꽃멸치 조업 한시적 허용 소득 도움

한시적인 꽃멸치 조업 허용으로 어민들의 소득향상에 도움을 주고 있는 것으로 나타났습니다.

제주시는 한림수협에서 면허를 받은 비양도 어선 5척에 대해
6월에서 8월까지 한시적으로 꽃멸치 조업을 허용한 결과
6천 100만원의 소득을 올렸다고 밝혔습니다.

지난해 처음 허용했을 때의 소득 1억 1천만원에 비해 감소한 것이지만
어민들에게 새로운 소득원이 되고 있습니다.

제주시는 앞으로도 소라포획 금지기간인 6월에서 8월중에
비양도 어선에 한해 꽃멸치 조업을 허용하기로 했습니다.
