Jeju-Busan ferry operations still on hold
National Assemblyman says Seoul should do something to resolve situation

A National Assemblyman from Jeju says Seoul should do something about the ongoing lack of ferry operations between Jeju and Busan.

On Friday, during an audit of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Kim Woo-nam, the chairman of the assembly’s oceans committee, called on the national government to do something to help relieve the bottleneck of passengers and freight.

He warned that the situation will only worsen when shipments begin of this year’s mandarin oranges and other crops.

Kim urged Seoul to consider different alternatives to solve the problem. Among them: having public organizations, such as Suhyup, begin ferry operations among them.

국회 농해수위 김우남 위원장은 오늘 국회에서 열린 해양수산부 종합국정감사에서
제주와 부산을 오가는 여객선 운항 중단이 장기화되면서 화물 적체와
여행객 불편이 가중되고 있다며 이에 대한 대책을 촉구했습니다.

특히 감귤 등 농산물 출하가 시작되면 물류난이 더욱 가중될 것이라고 지적했습니다.

이에 따라 수협 등 공적기관에서 여객선 운영 추진 등 다각적인 검토가 이뤄져야 한다고 강조했습니다.
