Jeju, Hainan to ‘strengthen ties’
Governors sign wide-ranging agreement Monday

Jeju and the Chinese province of Hainan have had a so-called “sisterhood relationship” for twenty years, and the leaders of both have agreed to further strengthen those ties.

Jeju Governor Won Heeryong on Monday met his Hainan counterpart (류츠구이) Liu Xigui Monday at the provincial office.

The two agreed that, based on the exchanges they have made during the past two decades, they would expand their cooperation in tourism, culture, education, sports and trade. To that end, the two regional governments will work together to draw up specific plans that will be carried between 2016 and 2020.

In related news, the national government recently selected Jeju to take steps to boost cultural exchanges with China, so Hainan officials are holding an exhibition about the Chinese province at the Jeju Culture & Art Center through Thursday.

제주특별자치도가 20년째 자매결연을 맺고 있는
중국 하이난성과의 우호협력을 한층 강화하기로 약속했습니다.

원희룡 지사와 하이난성의 류츠구이 성장은 오늘 오전 제주도청 회의실에서
두 지역의 우호협력 강화를 위한 협약을 체결했습니다.

오늘 협약을 통해 두 지역은 그동안의 교류를 바탕으로 앞으로 관광과 문화, 교육, 체육, 통상 등 다양한 분야로 확대하고 특히 내년부터 2020년까지의
구체적인 실행계획을 공동 수립하기로 했습니다.

한편 하이난성은 올해 제주와의 인문교류 테마도시 선정에 따라 오는 8일까지 제주도문예회관에서 다양한 전시회의 하이난의 날 행사를 개최하고 있습니다.
