The Halla Ilbo is reporting on the attempt to improve the quality of local mandarin oranges. More than 70% of the first shipment of this year’s outdoor grown fruit that was shipped to a Seoul auction market was discovered to be unripe and artificially colored.

Carbon-free plans grind to a halt in Gapa
Local authorities’ plans to develop Gapa into a carbon-free island have stalled. Two wind turbines built by the provincial government are out of order, and island residents are unwilling to sell their land for more facilities at the prices they are being offered.

VW, Audi to apologize for emissions rigging
Yonhap is reporting that the Korean units of Volkswagen and Audi will apologize to their customers for the deepening emission rigging scandal. They plan to send out an apology letter to about 92,000 customers.

Samsung logs 80% jump in Q3 operating profit
Samsung Electronics said Wednesday its third-quarter operating income spiked nearly 80 percent from a year earlier. It was estimated at 7.3 trillion won for the July-September period, up 79.8 percent from the same period in 2014.
