Jeju Black Cow Protection Zone in the works
Plan for separate area at Provincial Livestock Institute

In order to ensure the systematic conservation of the Jeju black cow, local authorities are working on a special protection zone designation.

To this end, the provincial government will submit a proposal to the Cultural Heritage Administration. The application includes plans to make more than nine-hundred sixty-thousand square meters of land at the Jeju Provincial Livestock Institute into a Jeju black cow protection zone.

The Jeju black cow has been listed as natural monument No. 546. However, there has been no separate protection area, so they have been raised alongside Korean native cattle species in Provincial Livestock Institute pens and pasture land.



제주흑우 특별보호구역 지정 추진

천연기념물인 제주흑우를 체계적으로 보존하기 위해
특별 보호구역을 지정하는 사업이 추진됩니다.

이에 따라 제주도는 축산진흥원 부지 내 96만여 제곱미터를
제주흑우 보호구역으로 지정하는 신청서를
문화재청에 제출할 계획입니다.

현재 제주흑우는 천연기념물 제 546호로 지정됐지만,
별다른 보호 구역이 없어 축산진흥원 축사와 방목지 등에서
한우와 혼합돼 사육되고 있습니다.
