KEPCO-LG participate in 'Carbon Free Jeju' project
Wind power, smart technology to underpin island ‘Eco Town’

Korea Electric Power Corporation and LG Group will jointly lead a project dubbed the ‘Global Eco Platform Jeju’ aimed at switching all local automobiles from fossil fuels to electricity by 2030.

To this end, the provincial government, KEPCO and LG will put forward various projects after establishing a joint private and public special purpose corporation.

Next year there is a plan to build an ‘Eco Town’ which collects and uses energy generated by wind power and operates high efficiency LED smart streetlights. The plan also calls for smart meters to monitor the amount of electricity used by each household in real-time, the construction of environmentally friendly buildings, and an integrated energy operation center to be established in the town.

The province also stated it will be expanding the ‘Eco Town’ to a number of areas around the island in order to get its Global Eco Platform off the ground as soon as possible.

민관합동의 특수목적법인을 설립해 다양한 사업을 추진하게 됩니다.

특히 내년에 '에코 타운'을 구축해 풍력으로 발전된 전력을 별도의 장치에 저장한 후 필요할 때 사용하고 고효율 LED 스마트 가로등과 가정 내 전력사용량을 실시간으로 관리할 수 있는 스마트 미터, 친환경 건물, 에너지 통합 운영센터를 운영하게 됩니다.

제주도는 이번에 조성하는 에코 타운을 도내 여러지역으로 확산시켜
글로벌 에코 플랫폼 사업을 조기에 추진한다는 계획입니다.
