Nation’s highest rate of cardiac arrests
84.5 per 100,000 in Jeju; national average: 49.5

Medical authorities say Jeju has the highest rate of cardiac arrests in the nation.

According to Seoul National University Hospital’s Department of Emergency Medicine, there were 30,309 cases of sudden cardiac arrest in the country last year. That works out to 49.5 per every 100,000 South Koreans.

The Jeju figure was a whopping 84.5 per 100,000, over twice as high as the 38.8 recorded in the Gwangju region.

Analysts attribute the situation to the local ratio of elderly cardiac arrest patients: 57.6 percent of all cardiac arrests in Jeju involved senior citizens. That meant Jeju and Gyeongbuk had the highest percent involving the elderly.

지역별로는 제주가 10만명당 84.5명으로 가장 많았고
특히 38.8명을 기록한 광주 지역보다 2배 이상 높았습니다.

제주지역의 심정지 비율이 높은 것은 노인환자 비율이
57.6%로 경북과 함께 가장 높은 점이 주요 원인으로 분석됐습니다.
