Fruit prices plummet 18% in five days

Well, it’s been a rocky start so far in the citrus industry: prices for mandarin oranges are tumbling as authorities uncover case after case of attempted sales of fruit that is not *fit* for sale.

The provincial government says inspectors have found five tons of substandard fruit at mainland auctions since shipments of early-ripening varieties began on October fifth.

The average auction price of a ten-kilogram box of outdoor grown mandarins at Seoul’s Garak Market fell from 15,700 won on the seventh to 12,900 won just five days later. That’s an 18 percent drop.

The lowest price also tumbled over the same period, from 7,000 won on the seventh to 4,000 won on the 12th.

잇따른 '비상품' 적발…감귤 경락가 하락

이에따라 지난 7일 노지감귤 10kg 한 상자에 1만 5천 700원 하던 서울 가락시장 평균 경락가가 닷새 만에 1만 2천 900원으로 18% 가까이 떨어졌습니다.

최저가격 역시 지난 7일 7천 원에서 오늘은 4천 원으로 폭락했습니다.
