The Korea Electric Power Corporation and LG Group have signed a deal to jointly promote the “Global Eco Platform Jeju” project which aims to make the island carbon-free by 2030. A scaled-down version of the project will begin next year in the form of an eco-town. Mike Laidman has more.

"이번 제주도의 카본프리 아일랜드 사업은 비단 제주도 뿐만 아니라 대한민국, 기업의 경쟁력을 훨씬 한단계 앞설수 있는 국가차원의 중요한 프로젝트라고 생각합니다"
The addition of state-run power company KEPCO to the project is expected to boost the development of renewable energy as well as the infrastructure needed to build electric cars. KEPCO has the know-how and experience when it comes to providing eco-friendly energy to island regions, and is already in the process of conducting projects on next-generation energy storage facilities.

If successful, the project will be expanded to include all of Jeju.
The Jeju Center for Creative Economy & Innovation will also join in then, and provide opportunities for local corporations to take part. An international industry model for this kind of renewable energy will also be devised for future reference.
