Prosecutors, police looking into Chinese media claims

Prosecutors and police are looking into a claim made by China’s state-run CCTV that casino managers and agents in Jeju have been luring Chinese citizens into gambling with offers of sex services.

The Jeju District Prosecutors’ Office said Wednesday the first step is to to verify the authenticity of the Chinese report. If the evidence is found to be genuine, authorities will launch an official investigation.

The Jeju Provincial Police Agency also said it was looking into the allegations with Jeju City’s Casino Supervisory Division.

The CCTV report aired Monday. It claimed Chinese police had cracked down on criminal gangs from South Korean casinos who enticed Chinese citizens to gamble with free tours, accommodations, and sex services.
