Third round of pine wilt control begins Friday
Authorities plan to finish process by September 2016

A third round of island-wide pine wilt extermination efforts will begin Friday.

Jeju City said Wednesday that all 290,000 of the remaining infested trees will be cut down. Officials aim to finish the process by next September.

950 people from 50 organizations, including 24 forestry associations, will take part in the operation. They are tasked with preventing further trees from becoming infested through the use of vaccinations and other methods.

The extermination of pine wilt-infested trees in the island’s gotjawal forests will be conducted using nets, in order to minimize damage to the natural scenery.

모레부터 소나무재선충병 3차 방제작업이 진행됩니다.

제주특별자치도는 내년 9월까지 재선충병에 걸린 소나무
29만본 전량 제거를 목표로 3차 방제 작업에 착수하기로 했습니다.

이번 방제작업에는 도내외 24개 산림조합을 비롯한 50개 업체의 950명이 참여하며,
고사목 신규 발생 지역에 대한 예방나
무 주사 확대 등 피해 확산 방지 방안도 함께 추진됩니다.

특히, 그동안 문제점으로 대두됐던 곶자왈 지역 방제에 대해서는
제거 고사목을 그물망으로 집재하는 등 훼손을 최소화할 방침입니다.
