New plaza planned at City Hall
A new public plaza will be built in front of Jeju City Hall, where the old complaint center used to be. It will be about five times the size of (어울림 마당) Eoulim Madang. Groundwork will begin in the first half of 2016 and the plaza is expected to be completed by year’s end.

Will outdoor-grown mandarin prices continue to rise?
Prices for Jeju’s outdoor-grown mandarin oranges are rising, after falling at the start of the sales season. Experts say this is due to improved weather conditions. The average wholesale price is now higher than last year, but lower than at this point in 2013.

Jeju bills face hurdles at National Assembly
The Jemin Ilbo is reporting that the National Assembly is unlikely to take up Jeju-related bills until next year because of other issues, such as the national government’s plan to issue new history textbooks.

Nine local animation companies will be joining hands to form the Jeju Animation Association. Industry insiders have been quoted as saying that because Jeju has an active art scene, the new group should help create a synergy effect by allowing companies to plan, create and merchandise products together.

ICOMOS to be held in Jeju for first time
The Halla Ilbo is reporting that the International Council on Monuments and Sites will hold its first ever meeting in Jeju from November first through the sixth. The council is known to play an influential role in UNESCO’s decisions on World Heritage designations.

Senior citizens denied flu shots
The paper says medical centers offering free flu vaccinations have been turning away senior citizens. They have been cited as saying it was due to an overload of patients and a lack of shots, but those that were turned away say the hospitals singled them out because they were older.

Park’s approval rating edges up after U.S. visit
Yonhap is reporting that President Park Geun-hye's job approval rating edged up on the back of public support for her successful visit to the United States last week. A poll released by polling agency Realmeter showed that 48 percent of people approved of Park's job performance, up 1.2 percentage points from a week earlier.

iPhone 6s preorders heat up S. Korean market
Apple's two new smartphones stirred a fresh craze among South Korean consumers on Monday as preorders sold out in the first few minutes of opening. KT said preorders surpassed 10,000 within the first one minute.
