The recent boom in development and construction has impacted all areas of Jeju, including school zones. Critics say contractors are not doing enough to keep children safe. Joseph Kim has more.

Construction is on going near an elementary school in Jeju City. Children should be protected in the school zone but we can’t even find basic safeguards, like a fence.

Even though they installed a fence here, all the construction materials are blocking the sidewalk. Jeju City said that there are no safety measures in place for construction sites under 1000 square meters.

Normally, we recommend they install fences because of the potential hazards to pedestrians, but doing so is up to the discretion of the construction companies. Installing a fence is mandatory for construction sites over 1,000 square meters, but there are currently no safety regulations for smaller sites.
