International cruise lines expanding in China
Carnival, Royal Caribbean planning larger presence

The global cruise industry is focusing on Shanghai, China, and that’s raising eyebrows for those involved in the local tourism industry.

Provincial officials say the world's largest cruise line plans to set up a local office in China to expand its business there.

Carnival is also reportedly planning to increase the number of its Asia-based vessels from 80 to 100 by the year 2030. That would allow it to accommodate up to 20 million travellers a year.

The world’s second largest cruise line, Royal Caribbean, will also expand its footprint in China by creating new routes to meet growing demand.

전 세계 크루즈 업계가 중국 상해로의 진출을 잇따라 모색하면서
제주도의 전략마련이 시급해지고 있습니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면
전세계 크루즈시장의 40%를 점유하며 가장 큰 규모를 자랑하는
'카니발 그룹'은 중국시장 공략을 위해 현지법인을 설립하기로 했습니다.

특히 2030년까지 아시아 투입 크루즈선을
당초 80 여척에서 100 척으로 늘려
이용객을 2천만명까지 늘린다는 계획입니다.

또 크루즈업계의 서열 두번째인 '로얄캐리비언 선사' 역시
내년도에 중국 모항을 분석해 크루즈 항로를 조정할 계획을 세워놓고 있습니다.
