Peak leaf season on Hallasan Mountain
One week earlier than last year

Weather experts say now is the best time to enjoy autumn colors on Hallasan Mountain.

The Jeju Regional Meteorological Administration said Thursday that, from the observation post near the Eorimok (어리목) entrance of Hallasan National Park, about 80 percent of the leaves had changed color, signalling the peak of the fall foliage season.

Compared to 2014, peak came about one week earlier this year. Weather experts say that is mostly likely due to lower-than-usual temperatures in October.

한라산 가을 단풍이 절정을 맞았습니다.

제주지방기상청은 오늘(22일) 한라산 단풍 관측지점인 어리목 한라산국립공원 관리사무소에서 볼 때 산 전체의 80% 정도가 단풍으로 물들어 절정을 이루고 있다고 밝혔습니다.

이는 평년보다 일주일 빠른 것입니다. 기상청은 10월 평균기온이 평년보다 낮아 한라산 단풍의 절정기가 빨리 찾아온 것으로 보고있습니다.
