Gangjeong Cruise Terminal construction on hold again
Protesters cause stoppage three weeks after work began

Workers just resumed construction on the Gangjeong military and civilian port’s cruise terminal last month, but work is already on hold again.

Construction started September 15th. Civic organizations opposing the port’s construction began protesting and attempting to prevent construction vehicles from entering the site, which forced contractors to halt work on October 8th.

Analysts say any prolonged delay in the development of the cruise terminal will prevent the facility from properly functioning as a joint military and civilian port.

지난달 재개된 강정 민군복합항 크루즈 터미널 공사가
한 달도 안돼 다시 중단됐습니다.

제주특별자치도는 지난달 15일, 터미널 공사가 시작됐지만
시민 단체 활동가들이 공사 차량 진입을 막는 등 공사 방해가 심해짐에 따라 지난 8일
시행사 요청으로 공사를 중단했습니다.

크루즈 터미널 공사가 장기간 지연될 경우 민군복합항이 준공되더라도 제대로 된 민항기능은 할 수 없을 것으로 보입니다.
