Province vows to improve island safety
Target: cut fire, car accident, disease, suicide death toll by 15%

The provincial government says it will focus more on creating a safer living environment on the island.

Provincial representatives say the administration is working on boosting the island’s scores on metrics in seven safety-related categories, which include crime and natural disasters. The police will work with the office of education and other organizations to form a group charged with coming up with general safety guidelines and offering professional consultations.

Local officials want to cut the number of deaths attributed to fires, car accidents, infectious diseases, and suicide by 15 percent by the year 2018.

제주특별자치도는 범죄와 안전사고, 자연재해 등 7개 분야에 대한 지역안전지수를 높이기 위해 경찰청과 교육청 등 유관기관과 합동으로 특별팀을 구성해 종합대책을 마련하고, 전문기관 컨설팅을 추진합니다.

특히 화재와 교통사고, 자살, 감염병 등 4개 분야에 대해서는
오는 2018년까지 사망자수 15% 감축 목표제를 실시할 계획입니다.
