Construction of accommodations will likely be prohibited in areas without water and sewer hook-ups.

The provincial government is pushing to pass a bill that bans the construction of tourist accommodations in natural green districts and residential areas that lack water and sewer infrastructure.

The province also plans next year to halt disbursement of Tourism Promotion and Development Funds for new accommodation facilities and cancel construction permits for developers that have kept their projects on indefinite hold.

According to data released in August by the Jeju Development Institute, at the current rate, more than 4,300 rooms could be left vacant at tourist accommodations in Jeju by 2018.


상하수도 없는 지역 관광숙박시설 '불허'

앞으로 상하수도 등 기반시설이 없는 지역에서 관광숙박시설 건축이 금지됩니다.

제주특별자치도는 기반시설이 없는 자연녹지지역과 일반주거지역 자연취락지구 내에서 관광숙박시설 건립을 불허하는 내용의 관광진흥 조례 개정을 추진하고 있습니다.

또 내년부터 신규 관광숙박시설에 대해서는 관광진흥기금 지원을 중단하고 장기 미착공 사업장에 대해서는 승인을 취소할 계획입니다.

지난 8월 발표된 제주발전연구원 자료에 따르면 2018년 이면 도내 관광호텔 기준으로 4천 3백여실이 과잉 공급될 것으로 조사됐습니다.
