JNU professor’s study on super typhoons published in Nature
Moon Il-ju currently heads university’s Typhoon Research Center

A study on tropical cyclones by Jeju National University Professor (문일주) Moon Il-ju has been published in the prestigious journal Nature.

Titled ‘El Nino and Intense Tropical Cyclones’, the study is a counter-argument against a previous publication by Professor Fei-Fei Jin at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Along with Science and Cell, Nature is one of the most recognized science journals. This is the first time a professor from a Korean university has been listed as the main author of a publication in it.

Professor Moon researches super typhoons and climate change and teaches at the JNU College of Ocean Science. He is currently the head of the university’s Typhoon Research Center.

제주대 문일주 교수, 슈퍼 태풍 논문 '네이처' 게재

제주대학교 해양산업경찰학과 문일주 교수의 '엘니뇨와 강한 태풍'이란 제목의 논문이 세계 3대 과학저널인 '네이처'에 실렸습니다.

이 논문은 엘리뇨 분야의 최고 권위자인 하와이대학 진(Jin)교수가 지난 2014년 ‘네이처’에 발표한 결과를 정면으로 반박하고 동태평양에서 엘리뇨와 태풍과의 관계를 재정립한 논문입니다.

'네이처'는 '사이언스', '셀'과 함께 세계 3대 과학저널로 태풍 분야에서 국내 연구진이 주저자로 '네이처'에 논문을 게재한 것은 문 교수가 처음입니다.

수퍼 태풍을 비롯해 태풍 강도과 진로 예측, 기후변화에 따른 태풍활동 변화 등을 연구해 온 문 교수는 현재 제주대 태풍연구센터장을 겸직하고 있습니다.
