Safer coast road on Udo Island

Authorities have announced work to improve safety on the Udo Island coast road near Biyangdo.

The provincial government said Tuesday that it would invest 50 million won to install 30 bollards and re-paint the protective wall in the area to make it safer for tourists and residents.

The move follows an increase in both road accidents and the use of two-wheeled vehicles by visiting tourists.

So far this year, 1.8 million people have visited the small island. That’s 36.4 percent more than the during the corresponding period last year.


우도 해안도로 안전편의시설 설치

우도면 비양도 부근 해안도로에 안전편의시설이 설치됩니다.

제주시는 관광객과 지역주민들의 안전을 위해 사업비 5천만원을 투입해 우도면 비양도 부근에 볼라드 30여 개를 설치하고 방호벽을 재도색한다고 밝혔습니다.

이는 우도에 이륜차 관광이 늘면서 사고가 급증하고 통행에 불편을 주고 있기 때문입니다.

한편 지난달까지 우도를 찾은 관광객은 181만 명으로 지난해 같은 기간보다 36.4% 증가했습니다.
