Forest marshland found on Jeolmul Oreum
Officials now drawing up preservation measures

Marshland has been discovered inside the Jeju Jeolmul Natural Recreation Forest.

The provincial government said Tuesday the marsh had been found mid-way up Jeolmul Oreum and that officials were now working on drawing up measures to protect the site.

The one-hectare marsh is on the southern face of the oreum, 600 meters above sea level. It is home to a large group of plants in the grass family.

The province said it will first conduct research to determine the academic value of the site and then seek to preserve it under the Forest Protection Act.


절물오름에 산림습원 분포 확인

제주시 절물자연휴양림에 산림습원이 분포하고 있는 것으로 확인됐습니다.

제주시 절물생태관리사무소는 절물오름 중턱이 산립습원을 확인하고 가치 규명을 통해 보호방안을 마련해 나갈 계획이라고 밝혔습니다.

이번에 발견된 산림습원은 절물오름 남쪽 해발 600미터에 1ha 규모로 습지 내부에는 벼과의 초본류가 집단 자생하는 것으로 관측됐습니다.

제주시 절물생태관리사무소는 확술적 가치를 규명한 후 산림보호법에 따라 보호조치를 해나갈 계획입니다.
