Court dismisses April Third Incident suit
Conservatives had sought to nullify official naming of victims

A court has rejected a request by right-wing conservatives to invalidate an earlier decision that officially named the victims of the Jeju April Third Incident.

The Seoul Administrative Court dismissed the case filed by 13 conservatives against the Jeju April Third Committee. The group included (이인수) Lee In-su, who is the adopted child of the late former President (이승만) Ri Seungman.

The plaintiffs had claimed invalid 63 of the tens of thousands of people officially named victims of the April Third Incident. The court dismissed the case, saying that the right to protect the victims and their remaining relatives outweighed the plaintiffs’ concerns.

재판부는 원고들이 심사를 거쳐 결정된 4.3희생자 가운데 63명에 대한 결정이 무효라고 주장했지만 희생자 결정 처분 근거 법규는 4.3사건과 관련된 희생자와 유족의 이익을 보호하는 것이라며 이들 이외의 사람들의 이익은 보호대상이 아니어서 원고의 청구 자격 자체를 인정하지 않았습니다.
