‘Jeju natives living off-island welcome news of 2nd airport’
Association press conference Thursday at provincial office

The association of Jeju natives living off the island has welcomed the news of Jeju’s second airport.

At a Thursday press conference from the provincial office, chairman (허영배) Heo Young-bae and other executive members expressed their strong support for the national government’s plan to expand airport infrastructure on the island.

Speaking on behalf of the 650,000 Jeju natives currently residing elsewhere, Heo said the association would help in any way possible to speed up the construction process and boost support for the project.

Heo also said the association especially felt for the villagers who are being forced to move out of their lifelong homes near the site to make way for the new airport.

재외 제주도민회 총연합회 허영배 회장을 비롯한 지역회장단 일동은오늘 오전 제주도청 기자실에서 기자회견을 갖고 정부가 발표한 제주공항 인프라 확충 추진계획을 적극 환영한다고 밝혔습니다.

이에 따라 65만 재외도민들도 제2공항 건설이 조기에 완공될 수 있도록 대정부 건의 등 범국민 공감대 확산에 적극 동참하겠다고 덧붙혔습니다.

특히 제2공항 건설 확정으로 삶의 터전을 이전해야 하는 해당지역 주민의 아픔을 치유하는데도 함께 할 것이라고 강조했습니다.
