Carrot prices rise as harvest shrinks
Prices up 30.5% as harvest down 7.3%

Carrot prices are up as the locally-grown supply shrinks.

According to the Korea Rural Economic Institute, the total area of carrot cultivation in Jeju this year decreased 9.6 percent to 1,532 hectares. That brings the expected harvest down 7.3 percent, compared to 2014, to 6,300 tons.

The wholesale price for a 20-kilogram box currently stands at 18,400 won, which is 30.5 percent higher than last year.


올해산 당근 생산량↓…가격 상승 '기대'

올해산 제주 당근 재배 생산량이 줄면서 지난해 폭락했던 가격이 회복세를 보이고 있습니다.

한국농촌경제연구원에 따르면 올해산 당근 재배 면적은 1천 532헥타아르로
지난해보다 9.6퍼센트 줄었고, 예상 생산량은 6만 3천여 톤으로 7.3퍼센트 감소했습니다.

이에 따라 최근 주요 경매시장 경락가는 20킬로그램 한 상자에 1만 8천400원으로
지난해 같은 기간보다 30.5퍼센트 상승했습니다.
