‘Shift needed to accommodate individual Japanese travelers’
Gyeonggi University professor speaks at Thursday forum

An expert says change is needed in Jeju’s tourism strategies to accommodate individual travelers from Japan.

Professor (강숙영) Kang Sook-yeong… who teaches tourism management at Gyeonggi University… made the comments on Thursday at a discussion meeting in Jeju. An open forum was held to discuss ways to boost tourism between Jeju and Japan.

Kang said attracting more Japanese visitors to the island would help lift the quality of tourism in Jeju. She called for the diversification of tourism strategies aimed at individual travelers by age group and gender, rather than the current heavy reliance on large tour groups.

As an example, Kang said Jeju needed to make public transport more convenient to use and tourist information more accessible.

일본인 관광객 유치를 위해 개별 관광객을 대상으로 한 체류형 관광상품을 개발해야 한다는 의견이 제시됐습니다.

'제주-일본 경제관광 교류 활성화' 토론회에서 일본 관광 시장은 제주 관광의 질적 성장을 이끌어 나갈 것이라며, 기존 단체관광 상품에서 벗어나 연령별, 성별에 맞는 제주 특화 상품을 개발해야 한다고 주장했습니다.

이를 위해 자유여행이 가능하도록 대중교통의 편의성을 늘리고, 개별 여행객을 위한 다양한 정보 제공 채널을 마련해야 한다고 덧붙였습니다.
