Jeju population rises 52,000 in ten years
Over 607,000 people living on island in 2014

The Jeju population has risen by 52,000 over the last decade.

According to the Jeju branch of the Honam Regional Office of Statistics, Jeju’s population in 2004 was around 555,000. It grew 9.3 percent over the next ten years to surpass 607,000 in 2014.

Demographic analysis, however, indicate that the population in Jeju is rapidly aging. While the number of residents under 14 decreased 18 percent, the number of people over 65 increased 54 percent over those ten years.

Meanwhile, Jeju’s per capita gross regional domestic product grew a staggering 78 percent over that same period to 23,170,000 won last year.

제주 인구 10년간 5만 2천명 증가

최근 10년동안 제주인구가 5만명 이상 증가한 것으로 나타났습니다.

호남지방통계청 제주사무소에 따르면 제주인구는 지난 2004년 55만5천300여 명에서 지난해 60만7천300여 명으로 9.3%인 5만 2천명 증가했습니다.

특히 이 기간에 14살 이하는 18% 감소한 반면 65살 이상 인구는 54% 증가해 고령화가 뚜렷한 것으로 분석됐습니다.

이와 함께 지난해 기준 제주도민 1인당 GRDP는 2천 317만원으로 10년 전에 비해 78% 증가했습니다.
