President mentions Jeju at UN Climate Change Conference
Park details plan to change Jeju into ‘carbon-free island’ while in Paris

The president has highlighted South Korea’s aim to turn Jeju into a carbon-free island on which all power is generated using renewable sources of energy and all vehicles are electric.

Park Geun-hye made the comments in her Monday keynote address at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris.

She said that South Korea plans to open a "prosumer" market that would allow people to freely trade electricity and turn Jeju into a carbon-free island, adding that when achieved, these efforts would open up a new market worth 100 billion dollars and generate some 500,000 jobs.

프랑스 파리 기후변화협약 총회에 참석한 박근혜 대통령이 제주특별자치도를 전기차와 신재생에너지가 100% 보급되는 카본 프리 아일랜드로 전환하겠다고 밝혔습니다.

박 대통령은 어제(30일) 프랑스 파리에서 열린 유엔 기후변화 정상회의 기조연설에서 우리나라 <2030 에너지 신산업 육성전략>에 따른 성과 목표를 제시했습니다.

이 자리에서 박 대통령은 신재생 에너지 전력을 거래하는 프로슈머 시장을 만들고 탄소 없는 섬 제주 실현을 위한 카본 프리 아일랜드 프로젝트를 통해 국내외에 100조원 규모의 시장을 개척하고, 50만개 일자리를 만들겠다고 밝혔습니다.
