194 mm of rain in November
Three times the normal amount

The island got three times as much rain last month as it usually does in November.

The Jeju Regional Office of Meteorology said Tuesday that Jeju received 194.2 millimeters of rainfall last in November, while the average for the month is only 66 millimeters. It was the fourth heaviest rainfall recorded in the month of November since weather experts started collecting the data.

It also rained on about seven more days more than usual, with rainfall recorded on 15 days last month, the most since 2011.

The meteorological office attributed the situation to a combination of El Nino, which created warm southerly winds, and high concentrations of water vapor in the air.

지난달 제주지역에는 평년보다 3배나 많은 비가 내린 것으로 관측됐습니다.

제주지방기상청에 따르면 지난달 강수량은 194.2mm로 11월 평년 강수량인 66mm 보다 3배 가량 많았고 기상 관측이래 4번째로 많았습니다.

비가 내린 날도 평년보다 일주일 많은 15일로 지난 2011년에 이어 최다 강수일수를 기록했습니다.

제주지방기상청은 엘니뇨의 영향으로 우리나라에 따뜻한 남풍 계열의 바람과 함께 많은 수증기가 유입되면서 비가 자주 내렸다고 설명했습니다.
