Officials reject 21 construction proposals in Seongsan
Part of anti-speculation efforts near site for new airport

Officials have rejected over 20 construction proposals in Seongsan-eup because they are suspected of being cover-ups for real estate speculation.

The provincial government’s construction committee said it had rejected approval for 21 projects since early November, when the area was announced as the location for Jeju’s second airport. The province also declared last month that all future land development in the area would require special approval.

14 of the recently submitted construction plans were proposals to build storage houses in similar locations, raising the suspicion that developers were trying to acquire multiple development permits.

Officials said it was necessary to restrict development made by subdividing land in an area that lacked urban infrastructure, saying doing so could lead to land speculation.

제2공항 예정부지인 성산읍 일대에 대한 건축심의에 제동이 걸렸습니다.

제주특별자치도 건축위원회는최근 회의를 열어 건축심의에 올라온 21건에 대해 재심의나 반려, 또는 보완처분 등을 내렸습니다.

이 가운데 14건은 제2공항이 들어설 예정인 성산읍 난산리와 삼달리 인근 지역에 대한 건축심의로 토지를 분할해 창고시설 등의 건축허가를 받으려는 의혹을 사고 있습니다.

제주도는 도시기반시설이 없는 지역에 필지를 분할한 후 시설물을 건축하는 개발행위는 난개발과 투기 우려를 낳는 만큼 제한할 필요가 있다고 설명했습니다.
