Tourist arrivals inch closer to 13 million
Up 10% over last year

Tourist arrivals are inching ever closer to the annual target of 13 million.

The Provincial Tourism Association said Monday that, as of Sunday, 12.9 million tourists had visited the island so far in 2016.

Arrivals are up some ten percent compared to last year. At the same time in 2014, the tally stood at 11.7 million.

The tourism association attributed the rise to the larger number of seats available on domestic flights to Jeju, as well as the industry’s speedy recovery from the MERS outbreak.

제주도 방문 관광객수가 사상 처음으로 1천300만 명을 돌파할 전망입니다.

제주특별자치도관광협회는 올들어 어제(13일)까지 제주를 찾은 관광객은 1천290만 명을 넘어, 오늘(14일) 2만 9천 명이 입도하면 1천300만 명을 넘어설 것으로 예상했습니다.

이는 지난해 같은 기간 1천170만 명보다 10 퍼센트가 증가한 것입니다.

관광협회는 국내선 항공 공급좌석이 늘어나고 메르스 여파로 감소했던 외국인 관광객의 방문도 회복세로 돌아서 관광객이 증가했다고 분석했습니다.
