Jeju grapefern found at stone-quarrying site
Environmentalists say rare discovery means work should be canceled

A colony of a very rare plant has been found at a site that was planned for stone-quarrying inside the (선흘 곶자왈) Seonheul Gotjawal forest.

Environmental groups held a joint press conference on Friday and announced that some 100 Jeju grapeferns had been discovered at the site, adding that the species is not only rare in Korea but that it is nearly extinct worldwide. They called for the stone-quarrying operation, which is scheduled to begin Tuesday, to be scrapped.

제주고사리삼은 환경부지정 멸종위기종이자 세계적 멸종위기 물입니다.

이에 따라 이들 단체는 오는 22일 예정된 다려석산 토석채취사업은 반려돼야 한다고 강조했습니다.
